YOU WROTE: Hmmmmm. On my macbook, fn f11 does nothing, and fn f12
does something mighty strange but it doesn't bring up the volume.
On mine fn f4 and fn f5 do do the volume. I just tried it because
the volume on my macbook is a source of minor irritation to me and I
thought f11 and f12 might be a fix.
TK: IN AND AROUND NOVEMBER OF 2007, APPLE CHANGED THE KEYBOARD
LAYOUT ON THE MACBOOKS SO THAT F11 AND F12 PERFORMED THE VOLUME
FUNCTIONS. IF YOUR MACBOOK WAS PURCHASED PRIOR TO THIS TIME, THEN
THE VOLUME FUNCTIONS WERE MANAGED THROUGH F4 AND F5.
