Hi Doug,
I've noticed quite a few updates were released in the last week or
so. Maybe you've just been unlucky. I don't use automatic updates so
I can't be of more help.

I vaguely think I remember hearing that you have to do manual updates

see if my memory is accurate. Here's what's happening:
My Mac does an automatic software update check once a week, and I
always let it install and update, but it always seems to finish
real fast, even though it does restart once. Today though, I
happened to do a manual software update check, and there were six
things to update totaling somewhere around 100 megabytes. The
restart for that took a long time, it rebooted twice, then I did
another check and found four more things to update, totaling around
100 more megabytes. That restart also took a while, and now, I
should finally be up to date. The question is, why so much to do
at once even though I've supposedly been updating every week?
