Thanks so much Ester! This clears things up! I will be very interested to see how this product develops.

Hello,

Thanks for providing the link to the Open Office Beta link. am using OO with Leopard.

Does anyone know how one can get the cell coordinates in spreadsheets? When working with a sheet, I can give the table keyboard focus. If I use the arrows, I hear the values but not the coordinates. Also, I cannot tell whether a given value is the result of a formula, or just a constant.

Thanks,

Dave

Oops, sorry for my earlier post, since I pointed to the wrong download page. Reading back to earlier posts, the version is the new beta:

The earlier post about NOT getting the X11 version of this application is still correct. But apparently the added accessibility features are in the most recent beta release that is not available from the main download page for Open Office.

Olivia, this is still a beta release, so not everything will be working. The Open Office project is an effort to provide an open and free alternative to the Windows Office Suite. It is not an accessible version of MS Office in the sense that no one has access to the MicroSoft proprietary software code, but it is intended to give similar functionality. Also, the stable current release of this productivity suite is written for the X11 (graphical) interface. However, in response to input requests the developers are also working on a parallel port of the product into the Mac's Aqua Windows interface that should be accessible. This development effort is not as advanced, which is why this is still a beta version and not ready for production use. Also, the OpenOffice development is not run by a company, but by contributing programmer efforts.

Esther
