Hi
Openoffice will read powerpoints. It's a bit flaky at present but it's
getting there. There is also Nisus Writer Pro for wordprocessing which
has very good MS word compatibility. Openoffice also does this, but
its wordprocessor seems to be rather unstable at the moment at least
for me.

Hello,
TextEdit will read some MS Word files. But not Powerpoint. Perhaps
others can shed more light on this subject.

Question from a VoiceOver user-to-be here:
So can you read power points with VO? How about other office
documents like Word and Excel?
Are they accessible either with Preview or in OpenOffice?

I could never figure out power point with jaws and ended up needing
proffs to email me the files in word format.
Dunno what I'll do about it in grad school, but I'll cross that
bridge
when I come to it, and certainly won't go back to windows!

I think what the person means by Jaws standards is; Can you do the

That's a perfectly good question for a blind student thinking about
switching to the mac. Nowadays, if you're a student you need to be
able to do things such as read Powerpoint documents.

Still a toy? Expletive deleted! This makes me puke! Jaws

Subject: [nabs-l] Mac and VoiceOver
I'm considering buying a macbook and am looking for opinions on
its
usability for a totally blind user. I realize that Mac OS has a
built-in screen reader, but quick google searches aren't
providing
much more information than the fact that VoiceOver exists and
that it
seems to be a fairly impressive product. This is fine, but I'd
like
more detail on it's day-to-day usage, preferably from users or
students who have made the switch from Windows and Jaws to
using a
macbook for their everyday computer use. All in all, what I'm
trying
to figure out is If it's worth seriously considering and making a
switch, Or is it still a toy, impressive but still not up to Jaws
and
windows standards? Feel free to write me on or off list with any
comments or thoughts.
