Hey
Do you know what inputs the firewave has, as if it has optical in/out
and at least two RCA inputs that would fill most of what I need.
Thanks

Hey Jacob!
How are you doing?
I hope all is well with you.
I don't know about most things you asked for, but I can recommend a
5.1 sound card solution.
The Griffin Firewave is a external sound card that works thorugh
firewire. It has all that is needed to plug in the three plugs for
center, left, and right channels. It also has an extra firewire
port, so that you don't lose the one that is already taken up on y
our mac.
I don't know if it is simulated or not. I am currently using is,
and like it very much.
Hope this helps.

Hi everyone
I'm wondering what the best USB sound card is to be used on OS X
with full capabilities. In short, this is what I'd need:
at least 5.1 surround output (true surround, not pro logic),
optical in and out with the ability to decode DTS into true
surround, at least two RCA inputs, digital coax input (though that
is optional), microphone input (optional)
I see quite a few Creative cards that would fit this description
but they do not have OS X drivers (and no, I won't use Windows for
this). I'm planning a home theater setup, I do have a 6.1 receiver
but was considering just eventually getting an iMac and revolving
the home theater around that instead due to its accessibility and
the fact that it could be used for more than just the home theater.
Besides, using Front Row as an entertainment hub is just too cool
of an idea to pass up. Some of the M-audio cards look good, though
I don't know how accessible their driver software is and user
experiences seem to be mixed with some saying they work great and
others reporting lag problems. I've used m-audio in the past and
tend to believe they would be good choices.
On a related note, what are your experiences with different USB TV
tuners, in regards to the accessibility of their software? Which
ones should I consider and which ones should I avoid?
Any opinions on this are greatly appreciated.
