I delt with the same thing when I first got my mac mini, unfortunately, there is no way to turn this jack in to a microphone jack. I'm actually kind of surprised Apple did not provide a way to do this, I would think a microphone port would be more useful than line in. In any ccase, you have 2 choices. You can get an amplifier to connect between the microphone and the mac, but a better option is to just get a USB microphone, that's what I did, and it works really well.

Hello guys,
I am probably missing something obvious, but how do I get Leopard on my Mac Mini to recognize microphone on my headset? The only place I can plug it in is the line-in jack, however, I do not seem to be able to find a place to switch this input into mick mode.
Any ideas?
Vic
