Also, the text edit program that comes with the mac will access
Microsoft Word documents, ad it works great with voice over.

Hi
Unfortunately Microsoft Office will not work with Voiceover,
microsoft seems to have given us the proverbial finger on this, and
have been very unresponsive to accessibility requests for Office on
Mac, and that's putting it kindly. The sad thing is it would not
take much effort on their part to make it work, most of the dialogs
and such work already. The only thing we can't access is the content
area... which of course is the most important part of Office. You do
have other options though and one of them might suit you, the
spreadsheet in Openoffice works very well and is compatible with
excel, also there is another spreadsheet called Tables which has
quite good excel compatibility also. Tables is what I prefer, it has
slightly better accessibility than Openoffice does, but Tables isn't
free where as Openoffice is. So even though MS Office won't work
there are other options you can explore, and perhaps one of them
will work for you.

Hi everyone:
My questions might sound very basic for experienced users like you
but that's because I am very very new to Mac OS. In fact, i just
order my first MacBook laptop. Up till now I used Windows with both
Jaws and Window Eyes. My question to you is whether Microsoft
Office package works with VoiceOver. I use Excel heavily and I am
hoping that I could slowly migrate all my computer tasks to one
computer.
Also, would he documentaiton that comes with VoiceOver should be
suficient to learn how to Use the Mac OS or do you suggest other
resources?
Thanks,
