voice over being stupid in text areas

Hi list. I'm in textedit and I've tried this in other text editing  
programs and voiceover while interacting with the text areas will not  
read letre by letre while using arow keys by them selves. Does anyone  
no why vo is being stupid now and not before. Thanks for any answers.
