Hi Dave the item I want to remove I put on the side bar. The item does
not show up in Finder preferences.

Its' in Finder preferences, under "sidebar". You can uncheck the
things you don't want. Interact with the tool bar, then vo to the
"sidebar" button, and press it with "vo+space".
