Appple has a converter for $20 I think that you canuse to plug into the 
computer and then run a cable streight out but it would not carry sound.  to 
do that, you need a mini to double rca out or the apple audio kit which 
includes a mini to digital optical out.  If the tv has s video, apple has 
you covered there as well.

Apples solution for this btw is apple tv.

So what kind of output port does the Imac have?  Does anyone make a
device that would take the output from that port and transmit it to a
receiver you ccould hook to your tv?
