I don't mess with the options dialog box, because it's too much for me.
I imagine I'm not the only one to feel that way.

Chad -

Thank you for a well-reasoned post on the general thread topic. I think it was needed.

In addition to your comments, I would like to add that bloated feature selections lead to bloated code to bloated applications and molasses-slow performance (witness the latest incarnation of the MS Suite).

Some of the options that were raised in the original post ARE STILL AVAILABLE (ahem, sorry for shouting - I get a little carried away sometimes). They may not be in exactly the same place, nor function in exactly the same way, but they are still available in the application. I am specifically speaking to one option that has consumed a lot of electrons over the past few days - the feature we could call "picking up where I left off." When I need to do that in a document, I set a bookmark or type in a string of nonsense text I can search for later. Not a true "feature" in the sense originally posted, but it works. Done deal.

As all software applications mature, they change. This means that some of the things we have come to know and love will get moved or - horror of horrors - deleted. I have learned to accept that in the many apps I have used over the years. Sometimes those actions on the part of developers have caused me to look long and hard at the applications I use. Sometimes I change the applications I use. We all hold things dear as to how we "get our jobs done." Change can sometimes be difficult.

However, I personally think a lot of this thread is unnecessary. Catering to every single option that does, did or could exist in OOo will cheapen it. For those who want that kind of bloated, slow application, let them call up Bill Gates and place an order.
