Seems slower to me, that certainly isn't a change for the better. Also the ability to animate objects along paths in Impress has been dropped which is important in schools for whole class teaching. I believe its just lack of time to implement the UI bits of this so it will probably (hopefully) reappear in 2.0.1 or somewhere.
