It looks like yet another strategy to confuse people into getting the
right "open office" thing from "MS Office" and put the incompatibility
blame on the others :)
That cuts both ways, and since they have the bigger marketshare, this
confusion would be more likely to benefit us than them. :-)
Personally, I think the name is quite inevitable. Obviously you have to
include the term "Microsoft Office" because that's the name of the
product. Given the present moods, they have to include the words "open"
and "XML". These are just key buzzwords right now.
So, given that you have to include all of those, you don't have many
choices left on what to call the format. :-)
