Hi Daniel,
I wouldn't be surprised if this is a problem with a distro specific
wrapper script for thunderbird. This feature used to work well with the
original thunderbird launch script (which might have changed in the
latest release) and correctly implemented wrapper scripts.
However, many wrapper scripts done by linux vendors lack support of
passing attachments to an already running instance of Mozilla/Thunderbird.
Did you try this without having Thunderbird running ?
