As a part-time journalist, I mostly use word processing programs. Open
Office Writer is a good program, but it still needs some tweaking. For
instance it does not recognize numerals in the spell check. It also does not
detect repeated words, punctuation marks or extra spaces. Also, there is not
a grammar checker or at least there is not in the English version.
I recently tried using Link Grammar an open source grammar checker, but
found it confusing and difficult to use. It has since been deleted.
Apparently though, its developers are working with ABI Word to incorporate a
grammar check into its next word processor. It may be a good place to start
for developing a grammar check.
I have fairly good grammar, but rely on the grammar check in Word Perfect as
a back up. I have a mild learning disorder and sometimes can't see
relatively simple mistakes.
I would really like to see a English grammar check in Writer and think with
a reliable mostly accurate checker Writer could give MS Word a real run for
its money.
I think many businesses would jump at a chance to save big bucks with an
office suite that does everything Microsoft Office does at a fraction of the
cost.
Keep up the good work.

Sincerely,

Amy Newport
