My 2 cents: It's interesting to note the amount of apparent revisionist
history going on indirectly through the 'leaked' memos and more overtly
through put-up pieces. Back in 1995, when both the web and the Internet
were still growing geometrically, Gates was still calling the Internet a
passing fad an unimportant:

I'm also wondering about how or if these PR moves are related to Gates
distancing himself from direct contact with the press and public. Does
that signal impending political threats from him?
OpenOffice and OpenDocument are both disruptive changes that could mean a
critical losss of income for MS. The former directly cuts into revenue
from MSO, the latter breaks the monopoly on office formats.
BTW If anyone has a working link to the "Halloween Documents, please post
it. OSI no longer has them and ESR has not yet put them at his site.
