According to the website, it should work on Mac OS X 10.2 - and I have used NeoOffice/J on 10.2, so I'm pretty sure it should work.
If you are trying to use the "official" X11 OpenOffice.org on there, you have to download and install X11 from apple.com <http://apple.com> If you want something that just works without installing anything extra, (including a new operating system), then use NeoOffice/J. http://www.neooffice.org/ It is free. It works on 10.2. It doesn't need X11. It's based on OpenOffice.org. And it's great!
