Hi,
having in mind the great press about ODF the
last weeks and months and seeing more and more people,
whole organizations and public authorities adopting it, this
seems to be one of the most necessary things we should
bring on the way at the moment: not only allowing
people to use and exchange the format, but to really work
with it in a very productive way.
A toolkit project, collecting all the single pieces
and also offering a bunch of more specific tools is the
only way for me to offer this to the community in a really
consistent way.
So, definitely a +1 from my point view!

Scope Summary
The scope of the "ODF Toolkit" OpenOffice.org project is:
1. To improve the ability to use OpenOffice.org as a programming
framework for creating and processing ODF documents rather than to use
it as a desktop application. This will be achieved by transforming an
appropriate subset from the OpenOffice.org source code basis, and by
adapting it to the new purpose.
2. To provide a home for components that can be used for processing ODF
documents and that are either based on the new ODF Toolkit, or
complement it.
Both together will constitute the ODF Toolkit, which is a toolkit for
office document creation and processing based on ODF.
This toolkit will share its source code with the OpenOffice.org desktop
application where ever this is reasonable.
That is, based on the OpenOffice.org source code, there will be the
OpenOffice.org suite, and an ODF Toolkit, which is tailored to
processing office documents outside traditional office desktop
applications.
Developers interested in moving beyond office suite functionality to
areas that express files as ODF, however "beyond" is imagined, are
invited to join. We envision this project as giving all a hint of the
potential of OpenOffice.org source and ODF.
