It doesn't make much sense to talk about HTML without thinking about CSS
and then to complain about lack of formatting possibilities. it has been
the W3Cs goal over the last decade to erase all visual formatting from
HTML and instead provide semantic formatting only - and improve those.

By nature, semantic formatting doesn't say anything about how something
looks, it rather says what something is. And this makes the combination
of HTML and CSS indeed very powerfull. So powerfull, that i sometimes
miss some of the possibities in Writer.

But using a WYSIWYG editor you will never experience these powers.

Huh? You need a word processor to get cut/copy and paste? And spell
checking...undo? Where have you been the last ten years? Welcome to the
21st century where we have text editors that have builtin copy &
paste. ;-)

Sorry, couldn't resist - no offense. But seriously, take a look at the
afore (indeed very very early in this thread) mentioned notepad++ [1].
It's opensource as well and one of the best editors you can get on
windows. And be assured it has copy & paste. ;-) Even if you don't have
to use it for HTML, you might enjoy having a better editor than crappy
old windows builtin notepad.
