Print preview (called Page Preview, found in the File menu) should show
you how the PDF will turn out. PDF is generally considered the end of the
line for data: Write once, print zero or more times to paper, then
delete.
Most systems have a PDF viewer of some kind built in, so you don't have to
use Adobe's viewer: eg. XPDF, KPDF, Preview
