And this is because you read it somewhere or did you actually did the
study. Linux has nothing stolen from anybody nor does the gnu utilities.
This tools were developed from scratch, the code was written from scratch.
The kernel works differently from the unix kernel and some of the stacks
in unix are not present in linux and vice versa.
It would be interesting to see a list of what exactly has been stolen
from
Microsoft...
The microsoft claims were on patent, patents, intelectual property,
copyright and the actual code are different things. The misconception that
they are somehow related is completly erroneous.
As far as I know, both Apple and Microsoft stole their user interfaces
from
the same source. Was it Xerox?
Apple did stole from Xerox since they had a box from xerox and access to
the code, microsoft through a join venture with MS could get some of Apple
code. However you have to draw a line whenever stealing a concept is the
same as stealing the code. A concept can be stolen with just a comment
about what it does, however coping the source code you will need access to
it on the first place.
However, this link <http://www.mackido.com/Interface/ui_history.html> is
interesting.

Good point. I overstated my case a bit! I still think that Microsoft
is an immoral organization, but there's nothing immoral about doing
what you have to do - using what you have to use, when there is no
choice. Let's work towards protecting the choice of OpenOffice
though, which is a viable (better in my opinion) option to MS-Word for
nearly all situations.
