Actually FOSS is not really about something for nothing. That would be perpetual motion which is impossible :) If people want something bad enough, someone has to stump up the goods. Be it programming themselves, supplying a programmer, or contributing cash. Contributing a request doesn't ever get it done, unless it is a request that a large majority of requesters have made. Even then it gets balanced against * what the project is * what else is in development * resources for developing (programmers & cash) * more other factors than you can shake a stick at In the case of an outlook replacement it has been decided to contribute to Lightning and Thunderbird so something is getting done. FOSS (Free Open Source Software) is about doing it yourself. Free means you are free to modify the program (rather than or in addition to costing nothing), Open Source means you will be given the program source code to modify if you want. Users that don't contribute are still welcome to use the program if they find it usefull. But unless thier opinion is aligned with those that are contributing, they may not get or reasonably expect a program that is tailored exactly to thier tastes If you re-read what you have written above it looks like you want to demand a custom built program without contributing anything at all. I hope this is not the case. Perhaps the error came about by an ommission in Alexandro's original statement, and if i am putting words in his mouth i hope he will correct me. Achieving changes in FOSS software "is not just about requesting something but doing it yourself". So you are welcome to cough some cash for the Thunderbird/Lightning project if you can't program or supply a programmer. -- Michael Napier NZ Linux: The OS people choose without $200,000,000 of persuasion. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
