Hi guys I have been working on a proposal to take the marketing/art project to become an indepenendent project separate from the Marketing.

The goal of the project is simple:
- Get more visibility and identity of the project
- Gain control on the tools to work with
- Strenghten the leadership
- Provide an environment to push creativity

So far I have had better private responses than public ones, I had talk with Louis and Florian about it and they both reference to the past efforts to do the same. They both agree with the sustantiality of the project but also acknowledge they want to be sure that the project will sail and not sink.

So far I have got responses from Nikash one of the very active members on the art project saying:

"I STRONGLY believe that OpenOffice.org could greatly benefit from having an independent Arts project. As I explained in my first response to this topic, the existing structure is not very friendly in allowing new members to join the project. I am a new member and I had great difficulty in joining the Arts project...OpenOffice.org is HURTING THEIR CAUSE more by NOT recognizing the arts project as an independent, unique and important part of the complete OOo community !!!"

Caio, another member of the project also agree saying:

"Yes, I think so. There are other important points, as getting a strong leadership. A project, even on the incubator phase, takes more visibility than a sub-project, indeed. The main issue with the art project right now is the lack of a leader, regardless it's a sub-project or a independent one.....And...a whole structure for the new project is required...leader, co-lead, other people supporting it."

I am still waiting on more feedback but I guess the feeling is becoming clearer that this project is a priority to have it as a independent one and that more infrastructure is required which I think will come once it becomes independent. Not many people want to participate on 'pet projects' as much as a real project.

One of the main questiosn is the definition of the scope. In the past marketing will go to the art project asking for a banner/flyer/badge for a specific campaign.

However I think that this scope is very limited for a more complete art projects like the http://art.gnome.org or the http://kde-artists.org/ and the www.(xfce/kde/gnome)-look.org. Which have a heavy ammount of participants donating templates, icons, etc.

On a past email we recognize that OOo has a lot of 'arts' and graphics that could fuel the scope expansion of the project:

OpenOffice.org as a product has:
- Background for Templates
- Color patterns
- ClipArt
- Icons
- OpenOffice.org Draw
- FontWorks

Having the right tools will make this exchange hub possible to make it's scope grow and also make a more creative and flexible product.

I really don't see any reason why keep the art project as a sub-project and like Nikash said I think we are hurting ourselves by not doing it.

So please feel free to give consturctive feedbacks and if this initiative is a "go" or a "none".
