Hi Willtwin

Sorry if this is the wrong contact, please notify me if it is and please give me another email address so I can send it to the right email address thanks!!! I want to suggest some features for Open Office as I love your software so much!

This is a great place to suggest proposed changes to OpenOffice.org. If you'd like them considered by programmers, you'll need to create an "issue" on the openoffice.org web site. I'd like to comment on some of your suggestions. I'm assuming that you use Windows.

First of all the interference colour I think should be changed to another colour to fit with most office suites now. Maybe a blue colour, will look nice, or maybe a gradient background picture?

You can change the colours in OpenOffice.org's options. OpenOffice.org doesn't come with its own colour by default - it uses the colour of your operating system's theme. If you were to change your Windows theme to blue (as I did once in the past), OpenOffice.org would be blue. Unfortunately Microsoft have made it very difficult to change the Windows theme. They want you to spend money at their theme website, but it is possible to find a utility program on the internet that will allow you to do that for free.

Some Windows themes do have a gradient look, but I think simpler is often better. I'm not real keen on the idea of a background picture. If you're interested in exploring this further, please ask for further details.

The Impress software would be easier to customize if you can use a drag and drop, double click environment when designing slides e.g. text. Also I think more transitions would be good as well! I think when making gradient backgrounds you can just make them without adding them to the gallery. This would be easier and more convenient for most people.

You can drag and drop text, but you need to put the text in text frames.

If you type text in the spaces provided, their position is determined by the layout. To change the location, you need to chage the layout. This is actually a good practice - it will make sure that all of your slides look consistent. For the slides you don't need to look consistent, use the blank layout and add the text with text frames, and drag the text frames anywhere you like!

I do agree with your point about gradients. I'd like to be able to make ad-hoc gradients without adding them to the list of preset gradients. (Maybe there's already a way, and someone can tell us.)

The draw software I think needs to be much easier to make pictures. <snip>

There are two types of programs used to create pictures: "draw" software, and "paint" software. OpenOffice.org comes with the former, and you are wanting the latter.

OpenOffice.org doesn't come with a paint program, but I'd like to recommend a couple to you:

1. If your needs are fairly simple and you prefer easier interfaces, I recommend Photofiltre (www.photofiltre.com). 2. If you want more features and don't mind a more complex interface, I recommend the Gimp (www.gimp.org).

Other people may recommend some other programs. If you'd really like to see a paint program in in OpenOffice.org, then look through the issues on the web site. If someone else has already asked for a paint program, you can vote on the issue. Otherwise you can create a new issue.

I hope this doesn't sound like I hate the software, because I love it. (Much better than Microsoft Word) but I think with these features and many more it will surly get more people to switch from word to your software!

I think that's what we'd all like to see!
