Hi,
I started using OpenOffice yesterday.

Good choice!

2 suggestions:
1) Put an upfront link or dialog box on your homepage, or under "Help" in the menu bar, entitled: "Suggestions"

I could not agree more. Or, "Problems and Suggestions". Encourage the folks who use OOo to be project contributors in their own right by making it a *snap* for them to contribute bug reports and feature requests.
2) There is a glaring omission of a margin width dialog box. Dragging the margin icons to achieve a desired margin width by eyeball on a sparsely graduated ruler, without any digital readout, is inadequate.

Well, though, this one does not need to be a feature request. You might be used to Word where margins and other document settings are set by default in the Format Document (on Mac) or Print Setup (I think, on Win) dialogs, and then modified in a different dialog that formats "Sections". OOo has done a very smart thing, in my opinion, by making *one* place to set options like these, the Format->Page... menu. On the Page tab in that dialog you can set your margins by number. Read up on formatting pages in the Help to see how to do things like changing margins or # of columns or the like within a document.

hope that helps!
