However, OOo is pretty dog slow even on fairly high spec machines. If
the code could be made more efficient it would be portable to smart
phones and PDAs etc and that would be a massive advantage in terms of
getting greater use. On a machine that is free with a contract no-one is
going to pay even a $50 overhead for an office suite and why have some
crippled app if you can have the full thing? All down to making the code
efficient enough to run on something smaller and then of course it will
run much better on the desktops too. So my vote is to stop adding
features and put all the effort into making the existing code as good as
it can possibly be. Set a target to reduce the code size by 20% by the
time of the next major release.
