My main desire to see this improvement, is to be able to do anything I like, on any size paper I want, with text, drawings, graphs - from spreadsheets, and the whole set of office functions.... all in the one box.
Before I write too much I should explain that I'm not a programmer so excuse any ignorances. Another question, what might the user interface of this office omnigram look like? I'm the kinda guy who strips down writer to a basic one toolbar with all the buttons i don't use every time hidden away. I find it messy when there's too much going on.

Udub mentioned that there's alreay an intergrated system called EIOffice, but i had a look at the webpage tour/info and it doesn't really seem to be the same sort of thing as to what's being talked about here. EIO seems more to be 4 programs all opperating in one window just with, albeit very useful, good inter-relationships. It's more like a dedicated o/s within an o/s. Although it does appear have a unified file format with the ability to import/export using more specific formats (not odf though), on reading it again it looks more like its more like a .zip (just called .eio) file that contains a mixture of word, spreadsheet and presentation docs.

Anyway, EIO seems to work by displaying custom toolbars for the type of file you're working on, but if you want to really just have one program that's gonna be alot of tools/buttons/functions. Admittedly there is alot of crossover but there's plenty of independent functions. How could we make them accesable/useable and not just have a program that does everything but has people screaming for the good old days when it was simple.

Would it be possible to have groups of functions (much like the separate program interfaces) and a 'skin-change' function (ctrl alt tab?) that kept the working file open but just morphed the interface to reflect the taks you were currently doing. Of course these cold be customizable so the people can decide what logical groupings they want.

Just a thought.
Ben
