Hi,

I have received the personal document from Bill.

My investigation reveals that all paragraphs, which have paragraph style "Heading 1" applied, have an automatic list style set. Thus, these paragraphs are not in the outline numbering. The "Heading 1" paragraphs are not in the outline list, in which "Heading 2" paragraphs are.

To correct such a document do the following:
- Perform a style search: "Find all" for paragraph style "Heading 1"
--> all paragraphs, which applied paragraph style "Heading 1" are selected after the sucessful search
- Click on toolbar button "Numbering On/Off"
--> the automatic list style, which is set at these paragraph is reset. Then, these paragraphs will apply the outline style and become part of the outline numbering.

Regards, Oliver.

Hi Bill,

If you want you can send me your document to my email address.
Then I can investigate it and hopefully find the reason for the wrong numbering in your document. Be sure that your document will be handled confidential.

Regards, Oliver.

Thanks Oliver-Rainer, I started with a blank document, and the numbering works fine as you noted, so I will copy over my information into the new document, and assume that it was a local problem to the old document.
Thanks,
Bill

Hi, I'm trying to use Heading 1 and Heading 2, but the numbering is not correct on the Heading 2. I wish the following:

    1.0 Heading
         1.1 Subheading
         1.2 Subheading
    2.0 Heading
         2.1 Subheading
         2.2 Subheading

But instead the numbering is like the following:

    1.0 Heading
         1.1 Subheading
         1.2 Subheading
    2.0 Heading
1.1 Subheading <== Wrong increment first level
1.2 Subheading <== Wrong increment first level

I've searched widely and tried on multiple machines and OpenOffice installations without luck. Of course headings are essential functionality to create documents. Anyone can help?

Hm, seems to be an usability issue.

Can you please state which version of OpenOffice.org you are using?

Can you please provide a short description of the steps/actions you have performed to get the "wrong" numbering?

In OOo 3.0 I performed the following steps:
- new text document
- type "A"
- apply paragraph style "Heading 1"
- hit toolbar button "Numbering On/Off"
- hit Enter key
- type "B"
- apply paragraph style "Heading 2"
- hit toolbar button "Numbering On/Off"
- hit Enter key
- type "C"
- apply paragraph style "Heading 2"
- hit Enter key
- type "D"
- apply paragraph style "Heading 1"
- hit Enter key
- type "E"
- apply paragraph style "Heading 2"
- hit Enter key
- type "F"
- apply paragraph style "Heading 2"
Then my text document looks like:
1. A
1.1 B
1.2 C
2 D
2.1 E
2.2 F

Regards, Oliver.
