Subject: [discuss] ms word

I use and prefer Openoffice.Org . Its an excellent program.

However my correspondents use only MS Word and the command open with , does
not work.
How do we get around this problem ???
Regards
Ron

Ron; is it you, using Open Office, that cannot open the file(s) created with MS Word, or, is it your corresp[ondents, using MS Word, that cannot open the file(s) created with Open Office?

Also, which version of the software, is each of you using?

One of the possibilitties, is that your correspondents are using a current version of MS Word, that uses the .docx file format, and the version of Open Office that you are using, might not be able to open that file format.

I find the easiest way for people who send word-processed files in word-processor file format, is simply to save all files in .doc (MS Word 97) file format, and, when sending files, unless the files are required to be writable, to send the files in PDF format, as the files should be universally readable, if the PDF is generated by reputable software (Open Office is good for that, and, on MS Windows without Open Office, CuteWriter is good), and PDF files are smaller than word-processing document files.
