The more pertinent question is why the _existing_ Thunderbird/OpenOffice.org partnership hasn't seen fit to publicize that, or any of the other tools that make Thunderbird/Sunbird&Lightning/OpenOffice.org "functionally" equivalent to MSO and Outlook. "Functionally" is in quotes, because Thunderbird is still unable to retrieve email.
