I hope I am replying to all who offered the good and appreciated comments to
my inquiry.

My ignorance here. I have had Word installed in my PC's for many years and
never questioned that WordPad was a product of Word. *I was wrong*. As
pointed out, it is a product of my basic Windows installation and I now have
a shortcut to it on my Quick Launch bar as I've had for years. Unless
something else crops up, I do not plan to reinstall Word on this freshly
rebuilt PC.

I sincerely thank and appreciate those who responded to my question so
quickly. Especially for being gracious enough to not make an issue of my
ignorance. 70 years old and still getting an education every single day.

My one remaining unanswered question is if Writer will print address bar
codes on envelopes along with addressee information. I certainly cannot
find any way yet but have posted my question for any suggestions.
Incidentally to the person who inquired about my application of WordPad---I
use it for quick notes or copying and pasting items of a temporary nature.
I like it for that because it opens almost instantly and is simple and easy
to use. With my older PC's, Writer takes a fair bit longer to open and it
is really overkill for some of my needs.

Thank you all,

Robert
