Go to http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/ and download and install stickies.
It will do as you need for temporary notes. You can also save them if
desired. It resembles a yellow post-it note on your desk top. It has
many other useful options but it is best for your application. I have
been using it for years. The "post-it" opens instantly so there is no
delay.
