Yes, CD is read only, it doesn't have anything to do with OpenOffice.org, that's just the nature of the CD. Why don't you just store them on a USB stick or an SD (or other) card instead? It's much faster too. If you are copying your documents from your CD to your HDD and they are still read only, you need to make them editable. I have LibreOffice 3.3 (pretty much similar to OpenOffice.org 3.3) and I can still load my old OpenOffice.org 1.0 documents (.sxc, .sxw and so on) without any problems. Even the macros work.
