I think question 1 regarding readonly and question 2 have the same
solution. Use a USB drive. Then you will be able to read and write the
document directly. I would recommend that you make a backup copy on each
machine when you finish the edits just in case the USB drive is stolen,
lost or fails. The USB drive can be a flash memory drive or a larger
external hard drive depending on your space requirements.
