I think the original source for the data on # of programming languages
being a better predictor of performance than the # of years of
experience came from our research back at General Electric in the late
1970s.  The authors of the various papers were Sylvia Sheppard, myself,
and others.  You can find one with Sylvia as the lead in the Dec. 1979
IEEE Computer.  Another is in IEEE TSE in March 1979 with me as lead
author.  Also I think we reported similar results in a paper in Feb.
1989 in Journal of Systems and Software where I was the lead author.  If
these dates prove accurate, my memory hasn't failed yet.
