I guess I just have a different perception of mailing lists vs forums. IMO, when done correctly forums look more professional. Forums are also search engine indexed and allow new members/visitors to view all the conversation that has ever occurred on a topic. Again I must be different, but when I post a question on a forum I don't have trouble remembering to check for an answer. It's almost always the opposite.
