I'm not exactly why there is drama surrounding the grant. The award letter
was very clear:

""The Knight Foundation Donor Advised Fund of Akron Community Foundation
awarded your organization a $15,000.00 grant to support the downtown Akron
tech and non-tech hacker space."

"This grant must be used for charitable purposes, and neither Akron
Community
Foundation nor the fundholder may receive any goods or services in
connection
with this grant."

It's to support Synhak, a charitable organization. the money is to be used
for charitable purposes. Providing reliable computers for use by the public
for *FREE *to do research or coding, is that not charitable? Granting $150
to a hacker's project, is that not charitable? And crashing a student's
science fair with $500 and saying "here, see what you can do with this?" is
a wonderful idea! How about improving/repairing the 3D printer that is
insanely cool and brings people in to Synhak and could come with us when we
set up a booth? There are so many possibilities that fall under charity
that there shouldn't be any drama about what to do. There is plenty of
money and I'm sure there is more on the way. This Tuesday would be a great
opportunity to break out a white board and brainstorm. :-) happy hacking!
