Don't forget too that sometimes it's the really little things, like having
something meaningful in the page's TITLE and META tags. I'm pretty sure
that's one of the many useful points Steve made in his useful presentation. 

 

I can confirm that I see LOTS of sites that have the same value used for
many (if not all) pages. That may be from laziness, or from simply not
realizing their value, or from people who use a CFINCLUDE of a header and
think they may be stuck because those are in the include file of headers.
But actually, there's a solution to that with CFHTMLHEAD. Check that out.

Clarke hit the nail on the head with his definitions.

An analogy I use is for people to remember the old dewey decimal system for
the library. Its a fairly tangible example of how Google tries to help you
find the most relevant books based upon the topic you are researching.  You
want those topics in the title of your page and in your h1 and strong tags.
Obviously, don't overdo it by having a page with repetitive or little reader
value, or you may find Google like the library may just throw your page/book
out the backdoor or worse yet ban it.  Of course, thats super simplified but
a good start point and good for explaining to stakeholders.

As far as working with keywords and phrases I'd strongly urge you to look at
the volumes of searches on the phrase and then the difficulty of that
phrase.  I wrote a blog posting covering these two topics and some tools you
can use to find "golden" keyphrases that can pay bigger dividends than your
stakeholders may even know about.

keyword."

 

I hope this helps a little. How hard it is to make this happen depends a lot
on the keyword you are targeting. If there's a lot of competition, it can
take a while and a lot of work to move up your search results. Depending on
the situation, that 's why a lot of people use pay per click sponsored ads.
