Thanks John:
Can you please advice how I can implement option 2? I am new to this. My development machine has MySQL, Coldfusion and IIS running on the same box so I am not familiar with doing this. Now, is using stunnel something I need to do or our server administrator? If the server admin, needs to implement it, it will be pushed back since he is swamped. Probably one of the easiest things to do is to use stunnel (http://www.stunnel.org/index.html) and create a simple SSL wrapper for the calls. Takes about 5mins to set up.
