Well Ken, It's all speculation on my part anyhow, as I've done AJAX/CF (SAJAX) and know that strengths and weakness of the applications that I've built to date. I've also built full on Flex apps (CF/WebService, and straight XML). I've simply found it much easier to build the data portal using Flex, and thought the hybrid approach worth as much consideration (from my vantage point) as trying to play the AJAX games that so many frameworks try to obfuscate.
With the advent of the CF8 tag library, and the addition of the Spry dynamic elements (Yahoo based), the world of Ajax has gotten a lot brighter.
