Hi, I use affa a lot. You can do localhost backups to usb or a nas. The config is here : https://wiki.contribs.org/Affa#Use_Affa_to_backup_to_a_NFS-mounted_NAS_or_a_local_attached_USB_drive There are a few steps to go through but these could be scripted if affa was integrated into the core of SME Server
Restore from backup is easy and very fast. A full restore is 1 command. Restoring a single file is easy because each backup is a full directory tree (using hard links for files that have not changed between backups). Another advantage is that we have people that know the affa code base. The downsides are: the USB disk needs to be formated in ext3 and not FAT or NTFS. the backups are not compressed. What work would be needed to incorperate affa (or any of the other tools) into SME as the standard backup tool? 1. A server-manager screen to do backup on demand 2. A script to prepare the affa configuration and launch the backup process. 3. An idiot proof script to prepare a usb disk 4. ??? Are the downsides worth any eventual advantages over the current backup tool?
