I have not touched it in the last 5 years and it would certainly
need some attention to make it a generally available contribution.
During that time period I've done daily backups of my SME 9.1
server to a NAS device The archiving part is still a requirement
and has never been implemented.
Back then I've tried to make it a contribution but failed with the
process, at least within the time I had at hand.

But we really need a way to back up to an arbitrary network share,
a la the badly-named Workstation Backup, that's more robust than
at least the current implementation of Workstation Backup. I
don't know if that should use dar or some other package, and given
my inability to code any of it, I don't know that I'm in much of a
position to say what it needs to be anyway. That discussion
should probably be somewhere other than on this bug, though, at
least if it's going to go toward replacing the existing backup
system.
