pov-ray is a good idea in principle, however they use a non-commercial
clause in their license, which means the NanoNote cannot be sold with it
installed.

I heard that they may be moving to a new license without the clause, but
haven't followed it lately. Perhaps they already did this.

Blender has pretty decent scripting abilities as well. The design
(including the scripting interface) is however quite gui-centered, which
is a bit unfortunate.
