I have tried listener and have had no luck. I make a bunch of noise and
set the mic to 100 and turned off line in alsamixer, but the .wav files
in /usr/share/listener will not play or even show up in GMU and when I
run them with mplayer it says 'no audio'. Am I missing something?
I notice that listener requires libsndfile, and assuming we have it,
that makes us 2/3 of the way done with the dependencies for Csound which
needs Scons (still not worked out) Python (done) and libsndfile (done?)

I have been experimenting with ripped DVD's and have converted one to
size, but it is off sync (it was encoded off sync, not played back

sync). I have tried passing the --sync option along but so far no
luck, the program will not begin encoding. Not sure on that for now,
but WOW do the qvga ogg videos look good! I have even got slightly
bigger videos to play but it is off sync (about 540/640x360)
