This kind of expression is there primarily to offer compatibility with the previous versions of the taglib while introducing a single attribute to set object, context and property: using LE will break this compatibility...
This makes easier in the future to switch to a more common expression language or to provide different versions of the taglib (just one point of change). It's fairly easy to implement, but if we want to move to the jstl direction now we should state that the new version of the taglib will not be compatible with 0.8.x releases. BTW, the expressions used are common beanutils expressions, whit a scope prefix borrowed from jstl fabrizio -----Original Message----- From: Andy Pruitt [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2003 9:58 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [displaytag-devel] PageContext / el not supported Absolutely- I've not heard of another taglib that uses this syntax. AFAIK, JSTL requires a JSP 1.2 container, but I think that JSP EL - as implemented in commons - has no such dependency. I'd be willing to supply a patch if there is interest. -----Original Message----- From: John York [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, September 24, 2003 2:02 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [displaytag-devel] PageContext / el not supported This is one of the features that I don't think we should release. It would be better to pull it out until we can get commons-el in place than to force people to use this custom syntax. Or at least, make it clear in the documentation that this feature will most certainly be changed in the next release.
