With the utmost respect, I must rebuke Paul's claim that this discussion is
misplaced on the dev list. We all have a stake in this legislation. All free
software projects have a stake in this legislation. I urge those unfamiliar
with H.R. 3261 to google for the Cole's Notes. This legislation effects the
removal of judicial oversight from the process of "incarceration" of an
electronic entity. This isn't about politics at all. User contributed content
is about to become a liability...

Yep, there's no doubt that having these kinds of discussions on the
dev list (which already struggles at times to keep a good signal /
noise ratio) is not the way.

However, it was clear at djangocon (and is also clear in the various
django IRC channels) that:

1) Many django developers are politically conscious and active, and

2) Many django developers view their participation in the django
project *as a political act*.

Where, then, can we gather to discuss the social and political issues
facing our community, and the social and political implications of the
various decisions that we make?

To my knowledge, there isn't currently a "proper forum" for this
discussion. I'd like to create and cultivate one if I can get the
proper guidance from the core team.
