Thanks for the heads up, Keryn. That PR is a lot more expansive than what
I had in mind. I was considering changing only `create_token()`. I think
it could help if the smaller changes I had in mind were considered
separately. It would decouple the changes and make the other PR easier to
evaluate as it would be starting from a better state.
