Not speaking for anyone else, but I bring a lot of records because I play whatever I feel like playing at that time and moment. I don't believe in having an arranged set made before I spin at a club or event, so I never know what I'm going to play till that moment when I step up to the turntables. So for me, I guess it's a way to keep my options open and making sure I am covered in all angles and playing for the crowd. It keeps my creativity as a DJ limitless and allows me to improvise and try different things while I'm mixing. The funnist part of DJing is the ability of creating new sounds and adding flavor to existing songs. Carrying lots of records is like an artist carrying more than just red, blue, green, and yellow colored paint to paint a drawing. The more colors you have the more options you have. Just my $.02 worth.
