Just trying to be thorough.  My real expectations match yours.  The only
point competing against that expectations is that the problem is a
rather narrow one... if we keep it that way.

The reason it's hard is that there are a bunch of similar but different narrow problems, and approaches that work great for one work poorly or not at all for others.
