Just to clarify: `vlc filename` transcodes a video to ASCII art. Is it the default action? Or is it because of your extension to VLC? Is it possible for you to run the VLC's transcode engine (if that’s your goal) without opening up the X application? Also, I forgot to mention earlier, checkpointing applications that use audio libraries is not supported currently.
